My photographer’s journey to digital is a progression of events and a dabbling in cameras over this last decade. My phototgraphy started in the 60′s with a full frame film Pentax SLR (I still have it and it still works!) and as now migrated to full frame digital. It is an expensive step, since my sub-full-frame sensor lenses do not work with a full frame camera. And, therefore, even if I stay with Canon, I would have to purchase a new body and new Canon lenses as well.
It is a bit of a circular journey from a Minolta 35mm camera to a Sony Alpha 850 digital camera that can use Minolta lenses!
Thursday, Nov 12: Ordered a Tamron 28-75 mm f/2.8 lens from B&H Phot, since the similar Sony G lens was not yet available! (Some say the Sony G is really a Tamron with a Sony SAM motor.) Lens scheduled to be here on Tues.
Found a Sony A850 at local (Porland) Ritz; but no lens save for the Zei$$–not ready to go there, yet.
Summer 2008: Shot a Sony A300 as part of a Sony summer soccer tournament promotion–three tournaments, actually, Nike Cup, Adidas Cup and Puma Cup.
12/26/05: Canon Rebel XT for a DEAL! Didn’t need but grabbed the deal on a Canon EOS Rebel XT kit for $775! without having to toil over the $225 rebate. The kit came with an (adequate) EFX 18-55mm lens.
09/08/2005: Started taking pictures with new Canon EOS 20d. 45 pictures at daughter’s soccer practice at Prairie HS, WA. Views of Mt. Hood and St. Helens nearby; soccer and farmer fields, small orchard and natural grass/shrub expanse.
07/05/05: Took some great shots of Palouse rolling wheat fields, and mule deer, 52 in all. Last day taking pictures with the Nikon. Returned it to Costco for full money back. It was an interesting adventure forgetting my Kodak 7590 at home. Leaving Yellowstone today. Up early to take a few last shots of Yellowstone Lake sunrise. Still using Nikon 8700. Took 33 shots today. Some along the way through Grand Tetons and Jackson, WY. Stopped in Pendleton, OR for the night.

Earthlink DSC Pro: Late 2001 November or December, I was career consulting in CA and a group of us migrated from Cisco campus career center to an onsite Applied Materials Caeer Center. One member of that group had been given a free 2 MP digital camera for subscribing to Earthlink Internet access. She really didn’t know how to use it, and the group wanted some photographs taken, so the camera found me and my interest in photography was rekindled! What really attracted me this time round was no dark room and no harsh chemicals–instant development and review! My consultant colleague let me take the camera when we were separated from the Career Center. I kept that little camera until summer of 2002. I don’t know if I saved/transferred any DSC Pro photographs. I know where they would be–on the laptop I bought that same Fall, whose hard drive only boots once in ten tries. I think the email addresses of those colleagues are on that computer as well.
